A National Warranty For Owner-Builders - BC
National Home Warranty now offers a standard BC 2-5-10 warranty to owner-builders. This program is available to all owner-builders who have applied for, and received, an Owner-Builder Declaration from the Homeowner Protection Office (HPO). National will provide you with new home warranty coverage whether you are currently working on your home, or we'll consider providing coverage even if you have already moved into your new home.
A National warranty replaces your requirement under the Homeowner Protection Act, to provide coverage on your owner-built home for a full 10 years.
Warranty Coverage
Applying for a National Home Warranty is easy! By filling out the application form, you will provide us with the personal and property information that we need. You will be asked to provide copies of your Owner-Builder Declaration and appropriate municipal reports. A National inspector will conduct a thorough assessment of your house. There is a non-refundable fee for this inspection. The inspector's report will determine if National will provide warranty coverage, and the quality of construction will be the determining factor in the rate you will be charged for your 2-5-10 warranty. How Much Will The Warranty Cost?
The initial inspection fee is $250 (plus GST). Following this inspection, the owner-builder will be required to join National's program at a cost of $750 (plus GST). You will also need to provide security in the form of an auto-extending Letter of Credit or Certified Cheque.Please contact a National representative for current pricing and security requirements.
